Manhattan Cotton Carolyn Pajamas

DSC_0674

Hey there!  It’s been almost a year since I’ve shared anything I’ve sewn for my sweet girl and man has she grown up in that year.  She has crossed over into adult patterns which opens a world of options to sew (which I love) but it floors me that she’s so old!  Sweet Pea is now 13 and truly her nickname fits her…she is so very sweet!  Here she’s modeling her newest pajamas, the Carolyn Pajamas in Geo Pop Fabric.

I don’t have much to share about the pattern (as I’ve sewn it before).  It goes together great and produces such a great pair of pajamas!  This time, I sewed these pajamas 2 at a time.  I sewed a pair for Sweet Pea and a pair for myself (I haven’t snapped pics yet of my pair).  I like batch sewing and how I can get two products in just a little more time than it would take me to sew one!  I did finish the seams slightly different on this pair.  I did flat felled seams on all the side seams to add a little durability!

The fabric for these pajamas are by Emmie K for Robert Kaufman.  I’ve sewn a few things from Emmi’es fabric lines before (dog bed, skirt, bag), but this fabric is in a new substrate, stretch cotton poplin.  There’s also a few prints in the line by Carolyn Friedlander!  It was the perfect fabric for these pajamas!  It has just a slight amount of stretch to it!  It ships to stores this month (October 2017)!

Sweet Pea was eager to let me take pictures of her as long as she could hold our new puppy, Teddy!  Here’s Teddy (which always makes me smile…our last name is Behr….so meet Teddy Behr)!

True Bias Mini Emerson Shorts

Hey there!  So I showed off a new pattern last week, and here’s the second pattern Kelli (at True Bias just released), the Mini Emerson pattern.  This again is the tester version.

True Bias Mini Emerson Shorts :: Dandelion Drift

I sewed up  a size ten for Sweet Pea, lengthening it 1.5 inches.  Kelli’s pattern runs very true to size.  My 12 year old is just thin and tall.

True Bias Mini Emerson Shorts :: Dandelion Drift

Her waist measurements put her in a size 10, but her hip measurement is a bit bigger.  To accommodate the larger hip size, I did a full seat adjustment on these shorts, and they fit her perfectly!

True Bias Mini Emerson Shorts :: Dandelion Drift

These shorts are reached for again and again, and I’m sure the fabric has something to do with it!  I used leftover rayon challis from this dress I made myself.  Now that I see these in rayon, I definitely want to make myself a pair of rayon emerson shorts!

Quick Details:

Pattern: Mini Emerson Shorts

Size: 10

Fabric: Rayon Challis (from JoAnn)

Modifications: lengthen 1.5 inches, full seat adjustment to accommodate a larger hip size than the pattern is drafted for

*As a pattern tester, I received this pattern in exchange for sewing the pattern and providing feedback.  Hardly any changes were made to this pattern while testing.  Kelli just changed the pocket bag slightly to give it a perfect fit!

Mini Ogden Cami

Hey there!  Happy September!  I have two new great patterns to share with you this week.  Today, I’ll share the mini ogden cami pattern, one of Kelli’s (from True Bias) newest patterns.  I helped her test this pattern, so what you are seeing here is the tester version.

True Bias Mini Ogden Cami :: Dandelion Drift

My girl is a bit particular about her clothes.  Her daily wear is dependent on comfort, and as a homeschooling family, this often results in athletic shorts and t shirts.  These new patterns are just as comfortable to her and she reaches for them often!  I love that these two new patterns from Kelli are of the same comfort level, but definitely look so much nicer!

True Bias Mini Ogden Cami :: Dandelion Drift

The mini ogden is very similar to the adult version.  It has a sweet v neck front, with a front facing.  The back is a bit different though.  It has a straight seam at the top (instead of the v in the adult version) with elastic casing.  I love the simplicity of this top!

True Bias Mini Ogden Cami :: Dandelion Drift

This mini ogden was sewn in rayon challis from fabric.com (I don’t see it in stock any longer).  I bought this fabric with my girl in mind, knowing that she loves bold, bright colors!  I didn’t do the best of jobs lining up the stripes on the side seams.  One side matches perfectly, and the one you are seeing here is just slightly off.  I’m sure no one will ever notice in every day life, but it’s a little detail that bugs me!

Quick Glimpse

Pattern: Mini Ogden Cami

Fabric: Rayon Challis from Fabric.com

Size: 10, lengthened 1.5 inches (my girl fits in the size 10 measurements, except she’s a bit taller)

*As a pattern tester, I received this pattern in exchange for sewing the pattern and providing feedback.  A few minor changes were made to the final pattern, the front neckline was raised .25 inches, the straps were shortened slightly and the elastic was tightened.  All minor changes to help perfect the pattern!

Vintage Sheet Pajamas

Happy Wednesday sewing friends!  I have the cutest pajamas to show off today! I am awfully lucky to have several really good thrift stores near my house.  They sell some of the best vintage sewing patterns, sewing notions, sheets, and even boots!  You never know the goodies you’ll find, which is most of the fun of thrift store shopping.  It’s like a treasure hunt!

Catnap Pyjamas :: Dandelion Drift

Well I snagged this sheet almost two years ago and finally found the perfect pattern to pair with it!  Toni of Make it Perfect just released a new pajama pattern for kids.  I don’t know if this just happens in my house, but pajamas are always needed here.  Both kids are growing so quickly and always telling me their jams don’t fit!

Catnap Pyjamas :: Dandelion Drift

I sewed Sweet Pea the Catnap Pyjamas (I love how pajamas is spelled differently in different countries!) in a size 10.  I love it when sewing pattern designers make patterns in larger kid sizes.  My almost 12 year old is getting so tall that she definitely needs the larger sizes.

Catnap Pyjamas :: Dandelion Drift

I lengthened the top of the size 10 pajamas by one inch, and left the shorts as instructed.  The instructions Toni put together for the pajamas are great, and the pattern came together easily!  I’m just a little bit jealous I didn’t save this sheet to make myself some jams.

Mini Colfax Dress

Mini Colfax Dress :: Dandelion Drift

Last week I shared my Colfax Dress with you, and this week I have a mini version for Sweet Pea!  Kelli of True Bias just released the mini colfax dress pattern yesterday and it is just as good as the adult version!

Mini Colfax Dress :: Dandelion Drift

Mini Colfax Dress :: Dandelion Drift

This is the tester version that I sewed for my girl, and again (just like the adult one) I have another dress planned to sew up from the pattern!

Mini Colfax Dress :: Dandelion Drift

I sewed up the min colfax in this cute rayon print fabric that I grabbed from the indiesew shop (no longer available).  I let Sweet Pea decide what fabric she wanted me to make her dress out of and of course she grabbed this cute lovebird fabric.

Mini Colfax Dress :: Dandelion Drift

I sewed version A because I couldn’t imagine using a contrast print with this fabric and covering up any of those cute birds.  I have the tiniest piece of this fabric leftover and I’m hoping it’s enough to squeak something out for myself!

One more shot of the yoke detail on the dress, because that is definitely my favorite detail!

Quick Glimpse

Pattern:  Mini Colfax Dress

Fabric:  Rayon Challis from Indiesew (no longer available)

Size:  10

Changes Made:  I lengthened the pattern 3 inches (Sweet Pea is tall and slim, so definitely needed the extra length)

Springtail Sundress

I know there’s been a little radio silence over her for the pat few weeks.  In fact, when I look through my site, the last post I have up is my last entry for the super online sewing match. The very talented Shannon from Adventures of a Young Seamstress won the competition!  I was so impressed with her sewing through all of the challenges, and all of that to boot at a young age!

Springtail Sundress :: Dandelion Drift

These past few weeks (this summer actually) has been jam packed with activity.  Sweet Pea turned 11, 11!  I think as a mom, I must get amnesia, or alzheimers, or something strange happens to my brain.  Each year as my kids get ready to have a new age associated with them, I get all mushy and sad, and really wish that they just wouldn’t grow up.  But then I remember: each year, my kids become a new age that I love.  Each year is a new adventure that I get to discover a little bit more about who they are.  They are growing up, but they are also growing into the people that they are going to be!  Pretty awesome adventure I get to go on as a mom!

Springtail Sundress :: Dandelion Drift

So Sweet Pea is 11, I had a birthday and turned 35, school started, and we have said goodbye to our summer life.  We are working on embracing the structure of our everyday life and getting back into routines!

Today I’m over at the imagine gnats blog  talking about this cute dress I sewed for Sweet Pea and her 11 year old self!

Mini Hudson Pants

Mini Hudson Pants :: Dandelion Drift Okay, raise your hands if your kids will only wear something that feels like t shirts!  Is that just in my house?  Truly, both of my kids would love to only wear t shirts and athletic wear, every. single. day!

Mini Hudson Pants :: Dandelion Drift

So guess what I sew for them, pretty much anything that feels like a t shirt.  Do you remember the Hudson Pants I made for myself a few months back?  Well Kelli has released a kid sized version of these pants, and they are perfect!  My girl LOVES her new mini hudsons and I think they are pretty darn cute on her!

Mini Hudson Pants :: Dandelion Drift

These pants were a staple on our Hawaiian vacation last month.  They were worn on the airplane, around the hotel, when it got chilly at night on top of the volcano (I know that sounds weird but it’s true, it’s cold on top of the volcano)!

Mini Hudson Pants :: Dandelion Drift

This past week Kelli had a few bloggers sew up the mini hudson pattern….find lots of mini hudson inspiration on her blog!  I loved Erin’s versions (yep, one for her girl and one for her boy) that popped up on Our Family Four last Monday!

Small Poolside Tote

Small Poolside Tote :: Dandelion Drift

I’m sure this is no surprise to you, but I’m a bit of a fan of Bonnie Christine’s fabric line, winged.  I’ve sewn a maxi skirt with her knit fabric (here) and a tank top with some quilters cotton (here), and today I have the cutest little tote to share with you while I’m taking part in the Winged Blog Tour! Small Poolside Tote :: Dandelion Drift

The last time I sewed a poolside tote, I popped over to instagram to get some inspiration.  I saw a few small versions of the bag and knew I wanted to give it a try eventually.  Well, when I got my hands on some more winged fabric, I knew it needed to become a cute little tote for my niece. How To Resize a PDF Pattern :: Dandelion Drift

I’m not the most tech savvy, so I asked Josh to show me how to shrink down a pdf pattern, and it is actually pretty easy.  You just hit your print button, click on the poster tab, and then type in the percentage you want the pattern to print out as.  I had asked around, and 75% seamed like a good number.  And it worked…woot! Small Poolside Tote :: Dandelion Drift

All of Bonnie’s fabrics paired up nicely with some leftover linen I had in my stash.  I love how each of the winged fabrics compliments each other without being matchy matchy.

Small Poolside Tote :: Dandelion Drift

So here’s the sewing breakdown!

Pattern :: Poolside Tote, shrunk down and printed at 75%

Fabric :: Winged Fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics, Robert Kaufman Linen

Outfit Breakdown :: Levi’s jeans, Natalie Top (blogged here), Doodle Canvas Shoes (tutorial here), Poolside Tote

Winged Blog Tour :: Dandelion Drift

Make sure to take a look at the rest of the blog tour.  Bonnie is rounding up the posts over on her blog, Going Home to Roost.  Yesterday, Jessica, from Snickerdoodle Stew made the cutest dress for her girl, and I can’t wait to see what Jennie and Clara make tomorrow over at Clover and Violet!
