Ella Top

One of the first patterns I grabbed from the Indiesew shop years ago (way back when Indiesew was brand new) was the Ella Top, and I’m excited to revisit the pattern and share with you my newest Ella Top that I finished sewing this past week!

This week is the Great Tank Bonanza week at Indiesew! Several bloggers are sewing up different tank top patterns to help share a little tank sewing inspiration! Take a look at Terri’s willow tanks and Leslie’s Gemma tanks!

I have a funny tank top story for you! When I was in high school I was a competitive swimmer, and was very fit and healthy! I worked out a minimum of two hours a day, usually more! One of my friends commented on how big my arm muscles were, and from then on, I was hooked on wearing tank tops! I think I was eager to show off my bulging biceps! Ha!

I still love tank tops, but not to show off my muscles though! I’m sure part of my tank top love is the fact that I live in central Florida and we have ridiculously hot summers! But I also love that tank tops are so versatile, dressed up, dressed down, with cardigans or on their own! And they are incredibly fast to sew!

I followed my same sewing modifications I made last time I sewed the Ella top! I shortened the hem by 1 inch from the bottom of the pattern. I also sewed the back yoke using the burrito method (from Grainline Studios). Next time, I would grade out the bottom of the pattern just an extra inch.

Okay, the best part of this tank…the fabric! This is fabric that I was given by a friend of mine. It’s vintage 100% cotton that I absolutely love! It has this beautiful border print. I debated if the Ella top would work with a border print, and I am so glad I went with it! I love the way it turned out!

Here’s a quick recap of the sewing details:

Pattern: Ella Top

Size: Small

Fabric: vintage 100% cotton (gifted to me)

Modifications: Shortened hem 1 inch, inserted yoke using the burrito method. Next time, grade out bottom of pattern 1 inch wider

Indiesew has a coupon code for you to save 20% off all of their tank patterns through June 17, 2018 10 pm MST. Just type in GREATTANK when you are checking out!

The Ella Top pattern was given to me by Indiesew. All opinions are my own…it’s great, I am still sewing it four years later!

  • It certainly worked great in this fabric! I love these tops too. They are just so versatile!
