DIY Curtains

Growing up, my parents let me choose what color my room would be painted, and I love that about them!  I love that I had creative license over my room.  Josh and I started letting our kids do the same thing!  Sweet Pea recently (okay a year ago) changed her room from pink (a color she now hates) to this ocean-y blue.

The green curtains that hung in her pink room no longer matched, so I started shopping around for curtains.  I kept coming back to this idea….you are a sewist, why don’t you just sew the curtains!  Time…that’s why.  If I had all the time in the world I’d sew everything I could.  But my time is limited and I definitely can’t sew everything!  Sweet Pea’s room sat without curtains for an entire year while I sat indecisive, buy or sew, buy or sew!

Then Lauren from My Fabric Designs contacted me to see if I’d like to try out some of their fabric.  I immediately thought of Sweet Pea’s naked windows and started shopping around.  I knew the golden spots on this fabric would match her room her and add a little calm to her bright walls.

There are a variety of fabric types to choose at My Fabric Designs, but for these curtains I ordered the basic combed cotton.  They are slightly see through, which is perfect for the airy look I wanted in Sweet Pea’s room!

I actually took a curtain making class over a decade a go, and I broke a few of the curtain rules I learned in that class, shhh, don’t tell my teacher!  I needed to take a few shortcuts to save me on time!
