Just For You Sewing Skirt :: A GIVEAWAY

Hey there!  Happy Tuesday…I have a pretty fun sew to share with you today!  Sarah and Caroline, from Blue Susan Makes and Sew Can She sent their book my way and I wanted to share what I made with you all!  Let me tell you more about the book, and then the skirt.  This book, Just for You! is full of a wide range of projects, from bags to clothes, with patterns and pattern pieces and beautiful photography.  At the publishers site you can get a good glimpse at a number of projects in the book.  It’s all put together really well!

Okay, my skirt.  This is the lovely long skirt from the book and I would have to agree with all of those adjectives when it comes to maxi skirts.  Okay, maybe I’d add another “L”, lean.  I think maxi skirts wave a little magic wand and make you look so put together and slim without much effort.

I was a little apprehensive to try a new maxi skirt pattern, because I already own one that fits perfectly.  But I thought it’d be great to try another silhouette, and I’m glad I did.  This pattern has six panels, which I think looks great and adds a little interest.  I used Robert Kaufman Catalina Knit fabric for this skirt in Steel, and definitely would use it again to make a skirt.  I do have to confess one little thing about the skirt.  I’ve already seam ripped this waistband and swapped it with the Syrah skirt waistband.  Just personal preference, but that’s the great thing about sewing, you can mix and match things as you’d like.  These photos though show the pattern waistband which does work well!

Okay, ready for a little giveaway.  Sarah and Caroline kindly offered up one book to my sweet readers (that’s you!).  Just leave a comment below telling me what you have been sewing lately.  Winners in the United States will receive a hard copy of the book. International winners will receive an ebook copy.  Giveaway will close this Friday, September 18, 2015 at 8 pm EST.

Thanks for reading and good luck!

Really flattering style and I love how you changed the waistband.

Lots of things for my kids fall wardrobe! Also, I’ve balked at buying a maxi skirt pattern because I figure I can draft my own, but your posts are making me reconsider. This skirt looks great!!

I’ve been sewing skirts, of course! And also some nursing tops to go with them.

  • Debbie

I’ve just completed my first tee shirt for myself, complete with a monogrammed pocket and was totally proud of myself for having accomplished that!
The skirt is beautiful! Thank you for the chance to win the book!

  • Tatiana

Your maxi skirt is beautiful! I am sewing Endless Summer Tunic in chambray, and planning Oslo cardigan that would go with it next. Thank you for the giveaway!

  • Lisa

With fall on the way, I have been busy sewing cardigans using my stash of sweater knit fabrics.

  • Kiltquest

I have a big ol’ pile of curtains to do (I hate seeing curtains). I’m working on knocking off a top my best friend owns (first draft was…meh). And I am eyeing up the Laurelhurst Cardigan, and the new fit n’ flare dress from Sew So Easy…need a great ponte for those! I LOOOOVE your skirt! So now that’s on the to-do pile too!

    • Kiltquest

Sewing curtains…doh. I like SEEING them. That’s why I make myself sew them!!

  • Ali M

I drafted a pattern from a Calvin Klein t-shirt I really like and made two mock ups last night to get the fit right, today I cut the pieces out for one that I’ll be able to wear in public! (I really need more clothes)

  • Melanie

I recently made your Alder Bess mash up dress, and a Burda 7659 dress. I’ve also just bought the Colette Hawthorn pattern – I’m in New Zealand, so summer dresses are top of the list! Cheers, Melanie

  • Courtney

Love that skirt! I’ve been working on Halloween costumes for the family lately!

  • Brenda

I really like the skirt, flows nicely. I have been working on some knit tops for fall for myself and my niece and some fleece jackets for my nephews.

Very appreciative that you’re sharing the skirt pics. Sounds like everyone wants these maxi skirts this season. I’m no different. :) Time for some Me Time in the sewing room. I’ve been making Kerchiefs with crocheted edges for the girls in my daycare.

  • April

I’ve been working on a couple quilts for my nieces, and I was fixing clothes for my kids that no longer fit or were damaged (a maxi skirt was partially shredded in a scooter accident – and she expected me to fix it because just because I sew I can fix everything… it’s now a shorter skirt.).

  • Jenniffer E

Love the look of the maxi and the wide waistband I have discovered do stay up on me :)

  • Janice Marela

I have been doing some baby quilts for family and friends. I have some beautiful silk that I want to make a collared shirt from or maybe a dress. I need to make some new clothes for myself.

    • Janice Marela

Thank you for the give away.

  • Dawna Fennewald

I have been sewing baby stuff. I did make matching skirts for my two granddaughters and I. Mine was a maxi. My 11 year old’s was a regular length and I added lace and the baby (6mos) was a circle skirt. They were so cute. I decided at the last minute to make all three and didn’t have enough for two maxi’s. Now it’s baby stuff I need a maxi for fall. I LOVE them. I love this one. I would love this book!

  • Cindy S.

Love the book! I just finished sewing a spring/fall jacket. I’m pretty proud of it. There were a lot of things involved that I had never attempted before. I spent a LOT of time on the muslin to get it right, but it was worth it.

  • Kathy Bowden

I’ve been sewing clothes for my 7 grandchildren.

  • Laurie Weimar

I would love to have the time to sew again. I went back to school, so my time is spent on homework. I do have several quilts in the works though. Love the skirt. It is very flattering.

  • Teresa Phillips

OMG! I have wanted to make a maxi skirt for so long now, and I absolutely LOVE this one! I have been sewing purses like a mad woman lately and haven’t taken the time to make anything for myself. Definitely making this one!

  • Paula Harlow

Lately I’ve been sewing smittens and fingerless mittens. This maxi is so adorable! I’d love to make a few for myself :)

  • Sarah J

Beautiful skirt- I love all the panels. I’ve churned out a few Kensington dresses for my daughter and now it’s on to a fall coat for my little guy and a few quilts! I’ve had my eye on this book for a while (notice nothing for me on my sewing list above!), thanks for the chance to win it!

  • Carol Tuzun

Love the skirt, looks very comfy! I’ve been making skirts for my granddaughter and altering some clothes for myself. The book looks great

Just found some fabric for some Christmas skirts for my girls, and hopefully enough for a matching tie for my little man. Now to make the time to sew them before Christmas actually gets here!
