Selfish Sewing Week

April Rhodes Riding Peplum

Well, this week is Selfish Sewing Week over at Imagine Gnats, and Rachael has teamed up with Kollabora this year!  Have I talked to you all about Kollabora yet?  It’s this great community of makers where you can take a peek at what everyone else is making.  I really love poking around over there, getting inspiration!

Okay, back to Selfish Sewing Week.  This year for SSW Rachael so kindly asked me to sew along, and that was a no brainer, yep, I’d love to.  Sewing for myself is my favorite kind of sewing after all!  She gave me the Riding Peplum Pattern by April Rhodes to sew, which again was a no brainer, yep, I’d love to!  April’s patterns are awesome.  She has three out right now, and I own two of them and am definitely pining after the third (the staple dress).  Her style is clean, simple, and a bit modern.  I love it!  And her patterns are wearable, every day wearable.

Okay, enough April gushing.  So, I made the riding peplum and it is an awesome pattern.  The pattern comes together super quickly, making a beautiful garment, inside and out!  April walks you through adding darts, french seams, and hemming the nice curved hem all the way around.  And the fit is perfect.  I measured between the XS and S, but knew from the last time that I made one of her patterns, I prefer to size down.

I don’t have much more to say about this top, other than I love it.  Oh the fabric…it’s from the thrift store, no surprise there!  And did you notice it’s not one of the usual colors I sew for myself?  Not black or blue…but gray….whoa I’m daring!  Actually the red is something I don’t wear much, but looking at these pics, maybe I should.  I think I like this color on me!

Okay, back to Selfish Sewing Week.  Rachael has a great giveaway of over 2 dozen indie sewing and knitting patterns.  Head on over to her blog to enter!  And good luck!  And happy sewing for yourself!

I love this on you! You inspired me to make one this weekend- by any chance, did you make any modifications? Yours appears to fit you much better than mine :) I’m pretty sure you are at least 4 or 5 inches taller than I but it still looks fitted on you whereas mine just hangs!

Other than adding pockets, no modifications. I seem to fit industry standard body types, because my measurements usually fit into one size!
