Perfect Pattern Parcel :: Lady Skater Dress and Peplum

lady Skater Dress

I’m sure you have seen the Perfect Pattern Parcel happenings around the blog world.  This is one awesome idea that Jill from That Moxie Girl and Rachel from Imagine Gnats created.  It is an opportunity to both support independent pattern designers and give some money to charity!

Perfect Pattern Parcel Number One is full of five great sewing patterns:

Accordion Bag by Sew Sweetness , Summer Concert Tee by Dixie DIY, Ava by Victory Patterns, The Skater Dress by Kitschycoo, Dandelion Dress & Top by Disparate Disciplines

This gave me the perfect motivation to sew the wildly popular lady skater dress, twice.  I first sewed it with thrift store fabric.  I can’t even remember when I found this fabric, but it’s been lying in my stash for a while.  And there was just enough to sew this pattern, with a little modification.  I followed the directions to a t, except I added in pockets, because who doesn’t love a dress with pockets?

For my second round at the Lady Skater I wanted to try a peplum.  I ran to Jo Anns and grabbed some double sided knit fabric.  It is sooo soft and sews up wonderfully!  Amanda has a great tutorial on her blog about turning this dress pattern into a peplum pattern.  I wanted a high low peplum, so I cut the skirt portion a little long in the back, tapering up to a higher hemline in the front.  I love how this turned out and definitely want to make another! lady skater peplum
