Tutorial :: DIY Sharpie Doodle Shoes

Doodle Shoes

Want to know how to make your plain canvas shoes more interesting?  These shoes are super easy and are definitely an attention grabger.  I get asked often where I purchased these shoes, or did you really make those?  Doodle Shoes

They are super simple, they just require a few materials and some time.  Here goes the tutorial:

Supplies:

  • canvas shoes (I purchased my shoes for under $7 at Wal Mart)
  • sharpies (one black fine tip sharpie and one broad tip colored sharpie)

Steps:

    • Color just the toe box of each of your shoes.  Go over the toe box a few times to ensure you have a nice even color.
    • Grab your fine tip sharpie and doodle to your hearts content.  This can be as intricate or as basic as you would like.  If you are getting stuck, search doodle ideas and browse through images to get your creative gears churning.  This step is the most time consuming, but also the most fun!

That’s it…put on your new shoes and wear them around!

P.S.  I wore these out in the rain and the colors did not fade…they should be great to wear in any weather!

Thanks Renee…it actually was a ton of fun doodling. It reminded me of being in college, or way back to high school when I would doodle while taking notes!

Love this! I did something similar to a pair of jeans in high school and loved the result. Looks really great. You’re a much more creative doodler than I. Pinning.

Great work Teressa. I would like to try this on pink and blue sneakers which are now a bit off color. I hope it turns out well. though. Will any other permanent marker work instead of Sharpies? Plus I’m scared of the colors running.

I’ve seen people use other markers, but I haven’t tried them out. The sharpies don’t run though. I’ve tested them out in the rain :)
