I Need Your Help

I am going to preface this post by saying I can’t believe I am posting these pics on the web.  But here we go.  I’m in the middle of sewing up a dress.  It comes from vintage Butterick 3549 and I’m stuck.  I’ve followed the pattern to a tee…and for the most part it has come out great.  I learned how to sew an elastic waist on the dress, I’ve sewn pintucks for the first time, but then I got to the sleeves.  This is a 70’s pattern and the sleeves have a bit of poof (a bit is an understatement).  So this poof makes me feel like a….hmm….football player.  What would you do?  Sleeveless?  Cap sleeve?  Help…please….I don’t want to look like a football player! football player

It’s not as bad as you think, just gives a old timey modest feel to it if that makes sense. I feel the same way in a dress I have with those sleeves, but it has a low neckline to balance them. So since you have a high neck and you don’t seemed thrilled, go for a short cap or maybe flutter sleeve. But sometimes it’s fun to wear something out of your comfort zone!

Thanks Renee…I think if I kept it as is I just wouldn’t wear it. I’m still on the fence about a short sleeve or sleeveless….my biggest ugh moment is that I had finished the insides of these sleeves with my serger. Lesson learned…try it on before you serge!

I think it would look lovely sleeveless, and going into Fall you could wear it with a cardigan or blazer.

I am leaning towards sleeveless…partly because I don’t want to dig through my pattern stash and find the perfect sleeve pattern. We will see :)

I think sleeveless would be great! You could even cut into them a little at the shoulder which I think would look great with the high neckline. Can’t wait to see what you end up doing!

I am leaning towards sleeveless also. And I like your idea of cutting in a little bit at the shoulder to balance the high neck line!

I’m not going to lie, I fell behind in my blog reading and was getting ready to do a Bloglovin purge “mark all as read” and just happened to catch sight of your thumbnail picture- and was like oh no gonna need to read that! lol. I’m in agreement with the sleeveless.

I’m glad my crazy pics caught your eye…I really needed to change those sleeves!!!
