Black Peplum Top

This week’s project sewn challenge is to sew something totally 80’s.  When I hear 80’s, the first thing that comes to mind are stirrup pants and big leg warmers.  I was not excited at all to sew something from that decade.  Black Peplum

So I did a little research.  It turns out peplums were popular in the 80’s.  Black Peplum

I am not a very trendy person.  When it comes to my clothes I like classic clothes that don’t go out of style.  So I haven’t tried this peplum trend yet, but this challenge gave me the push I needed to try it out. Black Peplum

I sewed this by adding a circle skirt (using Dana‘s calculations) to the bottom of this bodice.    Black Peplum

I like how this turned out, I’m just not sure where I would wear this outfit!

You could wear it out on date night when you and J go away for your anniversary! You look great :)

Great job! Your shirt turned out really nice. I had a hard time coming up with anything good from 80’s fashion, too. The peplum was a good idea.

Cute! I think you could wear it anywhere, it’s not too dressy for everyday, yet dressy enough for dinner out, depending on how you style it.

it turned out super cute, I’m adding this project to my wish to do list. I haven’t sewn in a few years and now that I have my new machine I can’t wait to get started. And I agree that you can wear this any where, you can dress it up or down.

Thanks! Let me know what you end up sewing with your new machine!

It’s a great top. You could wear it jeans, just like in your photos.to run errands, etc. Or dress it up with a necklace and skinny pants.

    • dandeliondrift

Thanks…I just need to get a little confidence to wear it out and about!

You could wear it anywhere you want to look awesome!! It looks great on you, I hope you will wear it :) I love peplums right now! I want to sew them onto every shirt I make, haha. But I am resisting in most cases.

    • dandeliondrift

Thanks Kelly! In our small town, I haven’t seen anyone wear a peplum. I’m thinking I’ll try wearing it to church this weekend.
